Bass Basin

The Bass Basin is located mainly on the continental shelf in Bass Strait between the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Limited exploration of the basin has identified several economic oil and gas accumulations. More than 30 exploration well shave been drilled in water depths of ranging from 60 to 90m.

The 1985 discovery of oil and gas in Yolla 1 led to the first Bass Basin resource commercialisation with the BassGas development commencing production from the Yolla field in 2006. Yolla is located approximately 150 km south of the Victorian mainland and 40km east of the T/18P discoveries. Gas and liquids are produced via an undersea pipeline to an onshore production facility at Lang Lang.
